Promises, Promises is the fifth book in the Beacon Street Girls series by Annie Bryant. It was released in 2005 by B*tween Productions, Inc.

Plot

The book centers around the junior high's seventh grade elections. Both Katani and Avery run for president, causing tension and making the other BSG feel pressured. Katani and Avery battle with each other constantly, wanting to use the Tower at the same time and getting angry when they end their debate speeches the same way. Meanwhile, Isabel is chosen to become the cartoonist on the Sentinel, but has a hard time creating cartoons on demand. She further worries when the editor in chief of the paper, Jennifer Robinson, suggests she do something edgier. Isabel, who is a bird artist, finally decides to draw one of her signature bird cartoons, therefore resolving the conflict. Katani and Avery, finally realizing the stupidity of their actions, make up before the official election dance. Henry Yurt, the class comedian who both Katani and Avery weren't worried about, wins the elections. Throughout the series, he is often mentioned as the president, and in book six, Lake Rescue, his Pajama Day proposal is put into action. It is not known if his "Backwards Day idea was accepted by Mrs. Fields (the principal and Katani's grandmother). Also, for the rest of the books, Isabel often is talking about drawing cartoons. In book ten, Just Kidding, it is revealed that she has a fan base, including several teachers. Altogether, all conflicts are resolved by the end of Promises, Promises.
